We’re moving a bit more quickly now. In this lesson we look at 3 minor chords: Am, Em and Dm. (The lower case m indicates that a chord is minor. If it’s just a letter name, the chord is major.) Minor chords are often thought of as having a sad, melancholic sound. This is true, though not always the case. Many Spanish songs, for instance, use minor chords and keys to make happy music.
Get comfortable with these new chords. You could try changing between them and combining them with some of the major chords we’ve already learned. We’ll be using them to play some songs very soon.
