One-to-One Lessons with Adrian – in Person or via Skype
With the vast amount of online resources now available it’s easier than ever to learn to play the guitar. But I still believe there’s no substitute for an experienced private teacher who is able to listen to and observe your playing up close, to help you clarify what you want to achieve, and to create a personalised practice routine so you can attain your goals in the shortest possible time.
Why come to me?
Over the years I’ve helped thousands of people get to where they want to be as guitarists. I’ve been playing guitar for over 30 years; I’m a graduate of the Guitar Institute of Technology; I’m a qualified guitar teacher (unlike many teachers out there); I’m DBS checked, and I have a wealth of professional experience both as a player and teacher. Most importantly, I’ve got a genuine passion for guitar education. As the website name suggests, I really do believe anyone can become a good player, and I want to demystify the guitar and help you to learn in a clear but thorough way.
Lessons are fun, focused on your needs, and will yield quick results.
Players of all levels and ages are welcome: I teach everybody from complete beginner children and adults through to pro players who want to brush up their skills or prepare for a tour or recording session. The precise format the lessons take will vary. If you’ve had a look around this site you’ll have some idea of my teaching and playing style, but I’m certainly not the kind of teacher who’s going to force his musical tastes on you during lessons. For some people the main focus will be on enjoyment, on learning those songs you’ve always wanted to be able to play, others may have very specific goals or be looking for a more rigorous programme of study. One common thread is the importance of efficient, organised practice so you can get results in the fastest time possible. If exams are something that interests you, I can can help you prepare for Rockschool, Trinity, ABRSM or RGT grades.
During the first lesson we will discuss where you want to go, and create a plan of action. I’ll take a look at your technique, find out a bit about the music you enjoy listening to and the music you’d like to play so we can steer the lessons in an appropriate direction.
I can help you…
- learn those songs or solos you’ve always wanted to play, note for note, exactly as on your favourite records.
- develop your feel, timing and groove.
- deepen your knowledge of the guitar with a practical, easy to grasp, understanding of music theory.
- become an awesome improviser, able to solo with style over whatever chord sequence comes your way.
- massively increase your confidence and technical ability on the instrument.
- figure out exactly what you need to be practising.
- develop your own creativity, songwriting and recording abilities.
I teach from my home in North London. The nearest tube station is either Turnpike Lane or Wood Green; there are numerous nearby bus routes, and parking is available right outside my house. Before your first lesson I will send detailed directions. Whenever I can, I also travel out for lessons at students houses across the north London area: I’m currently seeing students in Finchley, Crouch End, Muswell Hill, Camden and beyond.
Lessons are £35 an hour if you can come to me. I’m not the cheapest teacher around but, unlike a lot of others, I’m qualified, very experienced, and have spent many years working as a professional player.
Virtual guitar lessons Via Skype/FaceTime
For those of you not in London, I am able to offer online lessons via Skype. This is something I’ve been doing more and more lately. Up until recently this would have been a crazy idea but nowadays – if you have a reasonably quick internet connection – it’s just as good as being here in person. In some ways it’s even better: you get to learn from the comfort of your own home, with a teacher that is right for you. Plus you get to avoid all the traffic and transport hassles. It’s very straightforward – we set a lesson date and time, you pay me via PayPal, and at the agreed time I’ll give you a call over Skype (or FaceTime if you prefer and are on a Mac). I will email you a summary of the lesson, a practice routine, together with a copy of any of the music we looked at during the lesson and song/backing track mp3s. Price is £35 per hour, and I’ll always be available over email to deal with any questions or problems that arise between lessons.
