22. How To Practise

It’s worth spending a bit of time thinking about the best way to practise, so you can get the most out of the time you spend playing and progress as quickly as possible.

There are no hard and fast rules about practising, but the points I make in the video should give you some general ideas. The specific things you work on in each practice session will be changing all the time as you progress.

It’s down to you how disciplined you want to be, and how much time you want to spend practising. It probably depends on your own reasons for playing the guitar and your personal goals. If you want to become a professional player and dazzle the world with your virtuosity, you’ll probably want to practise in a harder and more organised fashion than the hobbyist who just wants to be able to strum through Wonderwall at his friend’s party.

I’ve made a more recent ‘How to Practice’-type video here which you might also want to check out.
