Awesome Rockabilly Lick

Find the lick written out below. I’ve shown picking indications for the way I do it, but feel free to pick it your own way if it sounds good.

Gear Notes

In the absence of a vintage Gretsch archtop I had to make do with my ’52 reissue Tele for this video. I plugged into my 80s Fender Super Champ. Overdrive comes from a J Rockett Archer pedal, delay from an MXR Carbon Copy.

The key to getting the classic rockabilly sound is the delay/echo effect. You’ll want a slapback kind of sound – a fast echo with a single repeat, so use a fast delay time and set the regeneration control to minimum. You can either go with a completely clean sound or perhaps introduce a bit of natural sounding overdrive.
