Being able to back yourself up whilst soloing by combining rhythm and lead is a great skill to develop. Not only does such a technique sound and look impressive, but it’s also a fantastic way of improving your sense of timing, phrasing, and developing your overall knowledge of the fretboard. I did a lesson along similar lines a little while back and this lesson brings you more of the same, except this time we’re in the key of A, and I’ve gone for more of a funky straight-eights kind of feel. I’ve written the piece out in full below. I think there are a few minor differences between the music and how I play it and teach it in the video. So take the music, and the video as a guide, and feel free to interpret things in your own way.
