5 Moveable Shapes
Major chords organised according to the 5 CAGED areas of the neck. The left-hand column shows the basic shape, and I’ve included a few useful variations in the other columns. It’s essential to know all these chords if you want a clear understanding of the guitar fretboard. In practice, some of these shapes are a bit awkward to play and are not that widely used. They are all moveable shapes and should be practised in all keys. I’d suggest choosing a single key and playing all 5 forms up and down the neck, starting with the lowest possible form you can find (which won’t necessarily be the E form). Or try playing in all 12 keys in a single 4 or 5 fret area of the neck, switching to the closest available form. Download a high-quality printable version here.
