Been meaning to look at a Fall song for ages. So here’s my take on a great track from their classic This Nation’s Saving Grace album.

Love Comes In Spurts by Richard Hell & The Voidoids
This is a classic bit of New York punk, which features one of my all-time favourite guitar solos from the late, great Robert Quine. Check out the original if you’ve not heard it before:

I’ve written out both the Robert Quine and Ivan Julian parts below. There are tons of little variations throughout the song and rather than write out all of these note-for-note, I’ve just given you the gist of each part. For more detail, do some careful listening to the recording. At the start of my video I mix the two parts together a bit, something which might work well if you’re playing the song in a band with one guitarist.

Another Girl, Another Planet
This 1978 track from the Only Ones has to be one of the greatest rock songs of the ’70s. It contains plenty of memorable guitar playing, from Peter Perrett and lead guitarist John Perry.
I’ve written out the first bit of the intro rhythm guitar and the intro guitar solo below. On the original recording the solo is double tracked with each guitar playing slightly differently. So my transcription is kind of an average of both parts. It’s all based on the E major pentatonic and E major scales.
If there’s overwhelming demand for it I’ll write out the main guitar solo too. Let me know if you’d find that helpful.
